England 1-1 USA
Lauren Turner
Entertainment reporter
It’s standing room only at this sports bar in Washington
DC – perhaps aptly, depending on the outcome of the game and who you support,
called Lucky Bar. While it’s mid-afternoon on a Tuesday, it’s rammed in here,
with red, white and blue shirts everywhere you look.Americans are known for loving their sport, but this
outpouring of support and passion for the USA women’s team is tangible, the
place erupting into cheers as the US room the lead early in the game. There is a smattering of England shirts on display as
well – but they’re vastly outnumbered.Ridley Williams and Richard Lindley are a married couple
who have split loyalties – she supporting the US and he proudly wearing his
three lions on his shirt. “We’re going to see if our marriage lasts the game,”
Ridley says wryly. “We have an agreement that we aren’t going to gloat, no
matter what.”Copyright: BBC

England 1-1 USA
It’s end-to-end stuff now! Millie Bright blocks a shot with her face and Rachel Daly leads a counter-attack for England.
Ellen White tries to get a yard in the box but goes down under pressure from Abby Dahlkemper.
Doesn’t look like anything to me and there are very few appeals for a penalty.

Absolutely brilliant for England.
I was worrying we could not get ourselves into the game but a moment of brilliance from Keira Walsh then Beth Mead’s perfect cross.
It was just a touch from Ellen White because she will be in the right place at the right time, she is so clinical.

England 1-1 Lyon

The England fans behind the goal at the other end of the pitch go bezerk!
Ellen White, the most instinctive finisher this summer’s finals have seen, does it yet again.
Phil Neville is so excited he runs on the pitch and has to be called back by the officials.
We’ve just looked at each other in the press box and gone ‘GAME ON’.

‘Great response’
England 1-1 USA
Emma Hayes
Chelsea Women manager on BBC Radio 5 Live
That is the first time USA dropped off a gear and that is why Beth Mead is in the team, for that quality. Ellen White gets between both centre-backs and it’s a great response.

GOAL – England 1-1 USA
Ellen White
SHE’S DONE IT AGAIN! Ellen White is now the leading scorer in the World Cup with six!
Beth Mead curls a terrific ball in from the left and White gets her toe to it first – directing it past Alyssa Naeher and into the far, right corner.
What a lovely goal!

The England fans’ band are still making the most noise.
But the USA fans are jumping up and down to a repetitive verse of ‘I believe that we will win’.

England 0-1 USA
It’s all very rushed from England. Keira Walsh tries to touch it on first time for Ellen White but she’s never getting there.
Steph Houghton and Lucy Bronze try to get something going down the right but Christen Press bundles the full-back over the sideline.

You have to get so much closer to Rose Lavelle, that is so easy for her.
She is finding space and dictating the play right now.

Tobin Heath looks dangerous every time she has the ball. She is toying with Demi Stokes on the right.
Heath links up with Rose Lavelle on the edge of the box and the midfielder lets fly. It’s hit with pace but is always going over the bar.

‘Everybody needs to be calmer’
England 0-1 USA
Emma Hayes

I think everybody needs to be a little calmer on the ball because USA are getting opportunities on the turnover of the ball.

USA play with such a high intensity, England need to calm it down and play it to their pace.

Beth Mead tries to release Ellen White early but it’s too early. England’s top-scorer can’t get there in front of Kelley O’Hara.

The USA have still scored in the opening 12 minutes of every match at this World Cup. Just insane.

Hannah: Come on England. Keep going
Joe C: Not the best start. But the way Americans have been attacking, it was a matter of time.
Come on, Lionesses! You can take it back!

England just look completely overwhelmed. The USA look like a team who have been in the last two World Cup finals.
